History[]

Tharok of the Fatal Five was one of the galaxy's most dangerous criminals. He hailed from the planet Zadron, located within United Planets space. His life changed when, during one of his many heists, he tried to steal a nuclear device and was arrested by an officer of the Science Police. Tharok tried to escape, the officer fired his weapon which caused the device to detonate, destroying the left side of Tharok's body. Tharok lived, but in a serious condition. He was rushed to the nearest medical center for treatment.

Zadron was home to some of the best doctors and scientist in the galaxy, and they saved his life with state-of-the-art cybernetic components. The procedure was rushed because they feared they would he could die on the operating table. Tharok survived, but was shocked by his new appearance. He realized that he'd become significantly smarter thanks to his partial computer brain. Feeling like a monster and outcast, he returned to his life of crime with a rage and hatred rarely seen before.

He became significantly more successful thanks to his new body and computer brain. He was eventually caught by the Science Police and was on the way to prison when Cosmic Boy intervened and said he could arrange a full pardon if he would help the Legion defeat the Sun-Eater. The Legion also recruited the Emerald Empress, the Persuader, Mano and Validus. These five criminals helped fight and defeat the Sun-Eater and, with Tharok as their leader, they took the name the 'Fatal Five'.

The Fatal Five and the Legion of Super-Heroes defeated the Sun-Eater. They received their pardon for past crimes, but the criminals believed that they were powerful enough to conquer the United Planets. Tharok's mind was able to hack Validus' cortical implants and take control of his mind, which was the main reason he became the leader of the team.

The criminals battled the Legion several times when they tried to gain control of the United Planets, but so far with no success. Tharok also became obsessed with making the left side of his body more human again.
