Ted Ralston was an archaeologist, friend and mentor of Ray Palmer (The Atom). He returned to Ivy Town with a giant diamond he found among ruins in the Azores. The diamond held a microscopic world, Utolia. Warlord Karl Jat learned that the diamond could produce a ray that turned animals into crystalline diamond forms, and used it on Ralston and his cat. The Atom entered Utolia, befriended a native, Moorn Jor, defeated Karl Jat and, with Moorn Jor's help, restored Ralston and his cat to normal.
