The villain known as the Red Dragon was born with a brilliant mind but an unsettling skull-like visage. To get his revenge on the society that rejected him, he tried to become an underworld leader and sought to build the reputation to do by defeating the Shining Knight (Justin Arthur). Red Dragon pitted high-tech weapons and deathtraps against the Knight's magical accoutrements - but failed.
Soon after, he was one of five crooks broken out of jail by the master criminal known as the Hand to be be his 'five fingers'. He set them to commit robberies and then alerted the Seven Soldiers of Victory as to when and where the crimes would take place. The Shining Knight again captured Red Dragon.
Red Dragon reappeared years later to fight the Seven Soldiers of Victory again, along with the JSA and JLA.
