Wylie sponsored the work of portrait artist Pierre Antal. In order to increase the value of Antal's paintings, Wylie murdered some of the portrait subjects. One found his portrait with a dagger in it; that night, he was stabbed. A diva found a dart in her portrait, and she was struck by a dart while performing. A noose was draped over a third portrait, and the person was found hanged the next morning.

Wylie, dressed in a skull mask, was prevented from shooting an arrow into a fourth portrait's sitter, and Batman set a trap by having Antal paint Bruce Wayne's portrait. A bullethole was found in the portrait's forehead the next morning and, that night, a shot was fired at Wayne (actually a dummy). Batman caught Wylie, who killed himself.
