Lalo Muldroon, aka Micro Lad, hailed from the planet Imsk. Like all Imskians, Lalo possessed the ability to shrink to a microscopic size. He came to Earth to apply for membership of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
Lalo failed the audition. He then joined with other rejected Legion applicants to form their own team known as the Legion of Super-Rejects. The team formed to show their superiority to the Legionnaires whose powers matched their own and were preventing them from joining the team.
The Super-Rejects were defeated by their counterparts when the Legionnaires used teamwork, a concept that the Super-Rejects failed to consider.
He became involved in a rebel group on his homeworld of Imsk, the same group that planted a Durlan spy (Yera) among the Legionnaires, disguised as Shrinking Violet. But this rebel group was defeated, and Lalo turned his attention to the more usual forms of crime.
Micro Lad later joined the Legion of Super-Villains, serving under various leaders without distinction.
