Tenzil Kem came from the planet Bismoll, where all inhabitants are able to digest matter such as metal and stone. Tenzil is able to do so at considerable speed. He joined the Legion of Super-Heroes where he served effectively for a number of years. He was notably involved in the capture of Atro the Brain from the planet Khann, and the Scorpius Gang masquerade that led to the capture of the crooked Science Police Chief Zoltorus and his Taurus Gang.
During the Super-Stalag of Space adventure, Tenzil was hit by a death-beam, but instead of killing him it changed his shape and he became fat. He remained so until cured by Doctor Zan Orbal.
Tenzil was somewhat unfortunate in his family: his brother Renkil attempted to get him expelled from the Legion, and his parents appeared to be positive bloodsuckers, out only for the money their son could provide them with as a Legionnaire.
Bismoll operated a draft system for politics, and Tenzil was drafted to be a senator.
When the monster Omega, created by Brainiac 5, threatened to use the Miracle Machine to end all life, Brainiac 5 got Matter-Eater Lad to eat the Miracle Machine. This destroyed Omega and ended the threat, but sent Tenzil insane. Tenzil then spent years being cared for in an institution until he was eventually cured.
