Scientist Hester Morgan was acclaimed as one of the foremost ornithologists in the country when she went to work for the Bradford Museum, but she was dissatisfied, and desired to have much more money. She created wings that enabled her to glide through the air, and used these to commit robberies as 'The Hummingbird'. When caught by Hawkman she pretended repentance for her crimes and said she would reform, and he believed her and allowed her to remain free if she returned her loot. Hawkgirl, however, was not fooled. Hester was unable to resist a further jewel theft. Hawkman caught her once again, and again accepted her protestations of repentance, allowing her free if she returned the stolen jewels.
