He had a mixed heritage (1/4 Korean, 1/4 African-American, 1/2 Caucasian). He trained at the same Ashram Monastery where his father had once spent time and, later, when Oliver again decided to retreat to the monastery, he found himself training the young man who was actually his son (though he was unaware of this at the time). Before Connor found the right time to tell Oliver that he was his father, Oliver was killed saving Metropolis from a terrorist bomb. Connor adopted the identity of the second Green Arrow, and took his father's place in the Justice League. Later, when Oliver returned from the dead, he and Connor formed a good relationship, and the group 'Team Arrow' was created.
