After losing out in his first attempt at getting Legion membership, Sun Boy was successful at his next attempt. He had learned to use his impressive power of controlling heat and light effectively. It wasn’t long before he became a major player in the Legion and seemed indispensable. He was the first Legionnaire to be granted the honour of having a statue built in his honour by the city of Metropolis.
His personal triumph came when he defeated the evil Dr Zaxton Regulus, who had once trapped the young Dirk Morgna in an atomic reactor that gave him his powers. In future years, Regulus became Dirk’s arch-enemy.
