The universe was subjected to another crisis when the embodiment of death, Nekron, attacked using the Black Lantern Corps, an army of resurrected evil zombies wielding power rings. Every person who had ever been dead before was vulnerable to immediate zombification. Hal Jordan, in order to defeat the Black Lantern Corps, severed the connection between the Black Lantern Ring and Superman, and transformed a number of heroes, including Hawkman (Carter Hall), into White Lanterns, restoring them to life.
