He was one of the earliest Legionnaires, joining at the same time as Chameleon Boy and Colossal Boy. In an early adventure, he saved the life of Jan Arrah, aka 'Mystery Lad', who later became known as Element Lad. Lyle was a permanent member of the Legion's Espionage Squad. He was one of the most successful and effective Legionnaires, and an inspirational leader during their most dramatic years when they defeated Universo, the Fatal Five, Mordru, the Hunter, Dr Mantis Morlo and the Chemoids, Dr Regulus and the Legion of Super-Villains. After years of distinguished service, he was killed by the monstrous villain, Validus.
