Bruce Wayne was orphaned as a child when a mugger named Joe Chill tried to steal his mother's pearl necklace and shot both Bruce's parents. This incident made Bruce swear to avenge their deaths and spend the rest of his life warring on criminals. As a young adult, he adopted the crimefighting identity of Batman, and soon became the bane of criminals in Gotham City. He eventually established a good relationship with the police force, and also joined the superhero teams, Justice Society of America and All-Star Squadron. As Bruce Wayne, he became the guardian of the orphan acrobat boy, Dick Grayson, who became his crimefighting partner, Robin.
In later years, he married his longtime foe, Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, and they had a daughter, Helena, who grew up to become the Huntress. Sadly, Selina was killed in an accident, and not long after, Batman himself was killed by the mystic-powered foe, William Jensen.
