Fal Tal was a military scientist of the Kalvars, a winged, harpy-like alien race, two of whose spaceships crashed on Earth millennia ago. The crew of the ship that crashed on land had all died (possibly having given rise to the Greek legend of the harpies), but those that crashed in the sea were put into suspended animation, and awoke 500,000 years later when a diastrophic heave brought the ship to the surface, and the ship's machines awoke the occupants.
Fal Tal used her mental powers to attack Hawkgirl and stole the Hawks' spaceship, while the male warrior Kalvars attacked Hawkman. But Hawkman defeated the warriors and saved Hawkgirl, after which the Hawks followed the Kalvars after repairing Fal Tal's own ship. They caught up the Kalvars, used a tractor beam to take control of their own ship, and then took the Kalvars to Thanagar to stand trial.
