Doctor Fate had been a member of the Justice Society during the last great war, but after this fell apart he became a sideshow act in Haley's Circus, using the Helmet of Nabu as his primary equipment. He was hunted down and killed by the Amazons, who had discovered the power of his helmet and wanted to take it from him.
