The rocket containing baby Kal-El from the destroyed planet Krypton landed on Earth, where the child was found and taken in by Thomas and Martha Wayne, who raised him as their own son and called him Bruce. Years later, when his parents were murdered by a criminal, Bruce's hitherto hidden powers awoke, and he unwillingly killed the criminal. Following this, Bruce adopted the mantle of the Batman to fight crime.
After some painful and traumatic events, Bruce realised he could do more for the world, and he evntually abandoned the Batman identity to become the heroic Superman.
