Lex Luthor turned up in the town of Hadley, near Smallville, wearing a super-suit and calling himself Amazing Man. He used various tricks and gadgets to appear to have great super-powers, and was acclaimed by the townsfolk. The plan was to persuade Superboy that he no longer needed to patrol Hadley any more, and then Luthor would use his tricks to loot the town. Superboy saw through his schemes and put him in jail.
